Riding Fury Home
by Chana Wilson Chana was only eight years old in 1958 when her mother Gloria was institutionalized and prescribed electroshock treatment for trying to commit suicide after being abandoned by her secret female lover. It is only after another decade, when Chana herself comes out as a lesbian in the 1970s, that her mother can tell her the truth about the cause of her depression when Chana was young. Not only is this a beautiful and heart-wrenching memoir of a transforming relationship between mother and daughter, but a window into how women who love women were treated within two very different time periods.
